Music Video by Pinecrest High School Boys Goes Viral

Young men at Pinecrest Academy’s high school want young ladies everywhere to know one important thing – that virtue is beautiful.  And they are saying so in a new video, a project that was unveiled at the Cumming school’s Homecoming pep rally on Friday, October 25, 2013.

After viewing a video by young men at Lone Peak State High School in Utah, to the tune of What Makes You Beautiful, by boy band One Direction, Pinecrest mothers, Laurie Flanigan and Kim Bass, were inspired to have Pinecrest’s high school boys record their own version.

"Our world is giving the wrong message today in what true beauty really is,” said Laurie Flanigan. “The purpose of this project was to give a clear message to our young ladies that they are truly beautiful inside and out,” she continued.

She enlisted the expertise of Pinecrest father, Dennis Ehle, who designed and launched the Pinecrest sports web site, www.paspn.org, and creates weekly ‘pump up’ football videos. With the help of choreographer and Pinecrest mother, Kim Bass, and 12 student athletes, scholars and student leaders, they produced the video in just two days, the weekend of October 19-20.

“When I met with the guys explaining what the project was, I told them that this message of virtue can't just come from the parents. It needs to come from the men!  I told them it was time to ‘man up’ and speak clearly to the young ladies and tell them what they need from them,” continued Flanigan. “I was so proud to see all of them raise their hands when I asked who was in!”

Despite inclement weather the first day of shooting, and a low battery on the video equipment on the last leg of the shoot, Flanigan says that ‘prayers to the Holy Spirit’ seemed to come into play with a successful wrap late in the day of the 2-day shoot. “The Holy Spirit filled that low battery so we could complete the video!” says Flanigan.

A closely held secret, the 12 young men were determined to produce a video salute to their lady Paladin counterparts by Homecoming weekend. “Our goal with this project is to promote the virtue of modesty across the Paladin student body,” said junior Jack Frain.

“I was so pleased to be a small part of such an exciting and impactful project!” commented Dennis Ehle. “I love the message and was especially proud of how hard the boys worked, both shooting the video and keeping it a total secret from the girls!”

The young performers unveiled their That’s What Makes You Beautiful video during the Homecoming pep rally on Friday, October 25, to the delight of the high school young ladies, who were touched by the gesture.

After the video was posted on Pinecrest’s Facebook page Friday afternoon, it went viral, with more than 13,600 views and 240 shares to date on Facebook alone.

The piece features the talents of students Aaron Bass, Christopher Birozes, Addison Ehle, Sean Flanigan, Jack Frain, JP McCabe, Ryan McCarthy, Jack Meersman, Greg Metz, Evan Montalbano, Jose Ruiz, and Andrew Wilborn, along with Coach Ryan Weingart.
