Georgia Cancer Specialists Launches Clinical Research Program in Cumming

Georgia Cancer Specialists, affiliated with the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, Launches Clinical Research Program at Cumming Office

The Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is pleased to announce the addition of clinical trials at the Georgia Cancer Specialists clinic in Cumming, bringing increased access to novel cancer treatments close to home.

In 2012, Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) affiliated with the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, redefining cancer care.  This partnership set a new national standard by creating a model of best practices; promoting general health, prevention and survivorship opportunities for patients; and increasing access to the evolving science of personalized medicine through clinical research trials.  GCS’s 46 physicians provide care in 27 Northside Hospital Cancer Institute locations across Metro Atlanta, North and Central Georgia, through approximately 160,000 annual patient visits.

Drs. Jorge Leguizamo and Nishan Fernando are the designated clinical investigators for the research program at the Cumming clinic.

“Clinical trials offer our patients the opportunity to have access to cutting-edge novel therapeutic agents as part of their treatment program” said Dr. Leguizamo.  “It is very exciting to offer the latest clinical trials here in Cumming.”

“Very few community practices have the capability to offer clinical trials as an option.  We want our patients to get the best treatment science can offer close to home, be it conventional therapy or experimental therapy,” adds Dr. Fernando.
