Panera Bread Supports Breast Care at Northside Hospital

This past October, Panera Bread invited its customers to join in the fight against breast cancer by purchasing one of Panera’s signature Pink Ribbon Bagels.  More than 10,000 bagels were sold at Panera Bread bakery-cafes throughout North Georgia, with a portion of the proceeds going to Northside Hospital’s Breast Care Program.  At Northside’s Celebration of Lights event on Dec. 6, Panera presented the hospital with more than $1,165 as a result of their efforts.

“We are grateful that Panera Bread has decided to support our Breast Care Program, once again,” said Patti Owen, director of oncology services, Northside Hospital.  “We developed our Breast Care Program to give women the education, screening, diagnosis, treatment and support they need in the fight against breast cancer; this money will go directly to supporting those services.”

The Panera Pink Ribbon Bagel follows the tradition of “thinking pink” in the quest to eradicate breast cancer.  Ten cents from each of the ribbon-shaped bagels sold in October at the 20 Atlanta-area participating stores was donated to breast cancer causes.  This is the third year, Panera has supported Northside’s Breast Care Program.  To date, approximately $8,200 has been donated for education and support services for the hospital’s breast cancer patients.

More cases of breast cancer are diagnosed and treated at Northside Hospital than at any other community hospital in the Southeast.  The hospital offers a complete range of services for patients including education, genetic counseling, imaging, radiation oncology, surgery, support, rehabilitation and more – covering every aspect of breast care.  For more information about supporting the Northside Hospital, visit give.northside.com.
