Former Cumming Chief of Police Dies

Aubrey Wayne Lindsey, who served 20 years in the U.S. Army, was Chief of Police in Cumming from 1986 to 1995.

Aubrey Wayne Lindsey, 59, of Dawsonville, died on May 4, 2013. Born in Decatur, he was the son of the late Aubrey and Rader Lindsey. He is also predeceased by his brothers, James, David and Gerry Lindsey.

Wayne served 20 years in the U.S. Army. After retirement, he was Chief of Police in Cumming from 1986 to 1995. He also served as Director of New Development/Special Projects in the Maintenance Department of the City of Cumming.

Wayne is survived by his sons, Vic Lindsey and Kevin Lindsey of Cumming; daughter, Audrey (Alan) Bryan of Chester, SC; sisters, Linda (Mike) Hickey of Douglasville, GA and Angie (Mike) Church of Dahlonega; his dearest friend, Joyce Lindsey of Cumming; and much-loved grandchildren, Tyson Bryan and Hope and Payton Lindsey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Rev. Shad Faulkner and Rev. Gerald Blackburn (City of Cumming Administrator) will officiate. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family is receiving friends today until 4 p.m., again from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from noon until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
