In Memoriam

Funeral services will be held for Cumming resident Joan Carol Berry McConnel of Hartford, Connecticut Tuesday.

Joan Carol Berry McConnel, born on July 7, 1944 - died on May 25, 2012.

Joan, age 66, passed away unexpectedly Friday May 25 at Northside-Forsyth Hospital. She will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend to the many people she touched.

Joan was born in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Virginia Reardon Berry and Edwin D. Berry. She grew up there with two brothers, Ned Berry and Phil Berry.

She graduated from Hall High School and attended a two-year college in Connecticut. Joan worked for Aetna Life in Casualty in Hartford for many years. Later moving to Townshend, Vermont she worked for Mary Meyer.

She was an avid gardener and a wonderful golfer. She volunteered for many years for Grace Cottage Hospital and Foundation. Joan moved to Stuart, Florida and later Cumming to be closer to her daughter, Heather McConnel Goukler, her son-in-law, Rick Goukler and her four grandchildren where she was a part of their daily lives and activities.

She was President of the Women’s Golf Association at Windermere Country Club and a volunteer at Haw Creek Elementary School that her grandchildren attended.

Joan is survived by her two brothers, Ned and Phil Berry, her daughter, Heather McConnel Goukler, her son-in-law Rick Goukler and her 4 grandchildren, Davis, Grace, Rachel and Luke Goukler and an unbelievable number of close friends from every walk of her life. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 29 at McDonald and Sons Funeral Home in Cumming from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chapel service on premises at 1 p.m. Graveside service at Suwanee View Gardens in Cumming at 2 p.m. Reception to follow at Heather Goukler’s home until 6 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held in June in Townshend, Vermont at the Garden of Grace at Grace Cottage Hospital.
