In Memoriam: Dodd, Jones, McDowell

Funeral services will be held for the following residents of Cumming.

Leonas Arthur Dodd, 88, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, May 29.

Born in Stephens County, GA, he is predeceased by his son, Joseph L. Dodd; parents, Earnest and Minnie Dodd, great grandson; Zachary Lacy.

Mr. Dodd was a 45 year resident of Forsyth County and member of Cumming Baptist Church. He is a 36 Degree Mason.

He is survived by his loving wife, Viola M. (Simpson) Dodd of Cumming; daughter, Martha Dodd Clarke (John), of Whitby, Ontario, Canada; brother, Herman Dodd of Toccoa, GA; sister, Eula D. Kinney of Clayton, GA; grandchildren, Scott A. Dodd, Genie D. Trafford (Derek Fambrough), Joseph A. Lacy (Jessica), John W. Dodd (Kim), and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 2 at Cumming Baptist Church. Interment took place at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The Revs. Barry Crocker and Gene Brown officiated.

Mrs. Angelia Rae Jones, age 46, of Gainesville died May 30, 2012.

She was a native of Gainesville, GA and the daughter of Jackie Freeman and the late Ronald Freeman. She was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Wayne Hugh Jones, of Gainesville, GA, son, Josh Jones, of Cumming, sister, Neta Jarrard, of Dawsonville, GA, brother, Johnny Freeman, of Dawsonville, GA, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 1 at the McDonald & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ruel Martin and Rev. Ronnie Sosebee officiating. Interment was held at Sawnee View Gardens.

Fred Stephen McDowell, 81, of Cumming passed away on June 3 after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Cedartown, Ga., on April 30,1931. Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McDowell, and loving sister, Carmel McDowell Boswell.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Virginia Morris McDowell. Also survived by, daughters, Lynne (Garry) Mize, Cumming, Lauren (Dave) Terry, Franklin, TN; brother, Willis Lee (Jerry) McDowell, Cedartown, GA; sister, Elaine (Roy) Anderson, Cedartown, Ga.; grandchildren, Brooke (Geoff) Duncan, Cumming, Clint (Stacy) Mize, Buford, Ga., Sarah (Jeff) Heath, Franklin, Tn, and Whitney Terry, Knoxville, Tn.; great grandchildren, Parker, Bayler, Ryder Duncan and Presley Mize.

Mr. McDowell served proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and was employed by Eastman Kodak for over 32 years in management. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Cumming Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 at McDonald and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5 at the funeral home.
