In Memoriam: Kopacz, McDowell

Obituaries for the following residents of Cumming.

James Christopher Kopacz, 64, of Cumming passed away Saturday, June 2. Born in Jersey City, N.J. he is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Harriet Kopacz.

James graduated from St. Peter’s College. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He owned and operated his own company selling industrial pumps.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Donna Kopacz; son, Matthew (Elizabeth) Kopacz of Ball Ground, GA; daughter, Melissa (Paul Brand) Kopacz of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Stefanie (Cleuder Assuncao) Kopacz of Alpharetta, GA; brother, Tom (Lorraine) Kopacz; niece, Victoria; nephew, Charles; 3 pugs, Dexter, Brady, Gracie; 2 yr. old granddaughter, Charlotte; granddaughter on the way, Annabelle.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 8 at McDonald & Son Funeral Home in Cumming. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held from 6-9p.m. on Thursday, June 7.

Fred Stephen McDowell, 81, of Cumming, passed away on June 3 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Cedartown, Ga., on April 30, 1931. Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus McDowell, and loving sister, Carmel McDowell Boswell.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Virginia Morris McDowell. Also survived by, daughters, Lynne (Garry) Mize, Cumming, Ga., Lauren (Dave) Terry, Franklin, TN; brother, Willis Lee (Jerry) McDowell, Cedartown, Ga; sister, Elaine (Roy) Anderson, Cedartown, Ga.; grandchildren, Brooke (Geoff) Duncan, Cumming, Ga, Clint (Stacy) Mize, Buford, Ga., Sarah (Jeff) Heath, Franklin, Tn, and Whitney Terry, Knoxville, Tn.; great grandchildren, Parker, Bayler, Ryder Duncan and Presley Mize.

Mr. McDowell served proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Georgia State University and was employed by Eastman Kodak for over 32 years in management. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Cumming Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6 at McDonald and Sons Funeral Home.
