In Memoriam: Mortimer McBroom Wood, 86

His greatest accomplishments were loving his family and taking care of his dear wife who is battling Alzheimer's.

Mortimer McBroom Wood, 86, of Cumming and originally of Birmingham, Alabama went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tillman and Kate Wood Sr. He was fondly called Mackie by his family and friends.

Mortimer grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Phillips High School and Auburn University. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII before moving to the Atlanta area in the mid 60’s. He worked in sales and stayed active in his church. He is currently a member of Cumming First United Methodist, where he served through the years with Meals on Wheels and various food banks. His greatest accomplishments were loving his family and taking care of his dear wife who is battling Alzheimer’s. He had a green thumb, enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, and watching Auburn Football.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Leoma Wheeler Wood of Cumming; daughter, Tina (Kevin) Newton of Hoover, AL; daughter, Cathy (David) Crouch of Cumming; grandchildren, Callie Brooke Newton, and Cole Patrick Newton; grand-dogs, Bunker and Gator. Other family includes, sister-in-law, Gladiese Crumpler; nephews, Tillman (Patti) Fannin Wood, III, Jeff (Donna) Crumpler, Woody Lacey Goode, and Douglas Goode; nieces, Racquel (Kenny) Meury, Delores (Don) Fox, Pam Crumpler, Brucie Goode, and Kitty Goode.

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the McDonald & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
