In Memoriam: Robert A Clendinning, 81

In retirement he enjoyed the frustrations of chasing golf balls, traveling, and watching the Atlanta Braves.

Robert A Clendinning passed away Aug. 24, 2013 from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease in Cumming. He was 81.

He was born and raised in Schenectady, NY where he was active in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Union College and went on to earn his PhD in Chemistry from Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute. He started his career with Union Carbide Corp while living in New Providence, NJ where he started his family. After 30 plus years, he transferred to Georgia with then Amoco Performance Products settling in Cumming. In retirement he enjoyed the frustrations of chasing golf balls, traveling, and watching the Atlanta Braves.

He was predeceased by his first wife Ouida Ann Sappinton – Clendinning.

He is survived by their children: Mark Clendinning of CT and Karen Clendinning of SC.  He is survived by his second wife Erna Salzmann – Mead and her children: Arthur Mead of WI, Maribeth Lincoln of NJ, and five grandchildren: Colin Mean, Jennifer Mead, Spencer Mead, Beth Lincoln, and Elise Lincoln.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., followed by a short service at McDonald & Son Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
