Question of the Week: Do You Like Shorter or Longer Days?

This weekend Daylight Saving Time comes to an end for another year - leaving us with shorter days.

This weekend for most of the United States, Daylight Saving Time ends and Eastern Standard Time begins at 2 a.m. on November 4.

That means the length of the day will be shorter as winter approaches. According to Time and Date, on Sunday you can expect the sun to rise at 7 a.m. and set at 5:42 a.m.

All states, with the exception of Arizona and Hawaii, along with the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa, recognize Daylight Saving Time every spring.

InfoPlease.com reports, in April 2005 Indiana passed a law agreeing to observe daylight saving time with the rest of the country. Then four months later, Congress passed an energy bill that included extending Daylight Saving Time by about a month. In 2007, DST began on the second Sunday of March and ended on the first Sunday of November and has been that way to date.

So as we get ready to fall back this weekend, our question to you:

Do You Like Shorter Days or Longer Days, and Why? Tell us in comments.

Editor's note: The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, no "s"

I like longer days. When I had an office I worked out of, it would creep me out when I left work at 6 p.m. and it would be completely dark...

I definitely like longer days - and so do these Patch Facebook fans this is what they had to say:
"Longer" - Debbie Ledford " longer...screws up my time to run after work!" - Jen Nowicki Clark " WHY do we change back in the winter? It makes everything sad in the afternoons!" - Elexis Hays "Longer! Light keeps me sane in cold weather!" - Rhetta Roy " I think we should have "normal" time year-round." - Carolyn Buda Pierce

I hate how dark it gets early.. Going to and leaving from work in the dark is no fun..

Just leave the clock alone all year round! Quit messing with kids' sleep schedules. It doesn't make sense to keep this as we are no longer an agricultural-based economy.

I agree, moving foward and backwards on our clocks makes no sense. Even when we were an agricultural based economy, the sun rose and went down at the same time (not our time, but technically). They still worked from sun-up to sun-down. All the time changes do now are mess-up our body clocks.

I like longer days. No wonder people's depression increases in the winter. It is dark when you get up and when you leave for work. Then it is still dark when you leave work and go home to get ready for bed. The time change in the winter makes me want to stay in bed more. It also makes me put higher wattage light bulbs in my fixtures and leave all the lights on to fight off seasonal Depression!!! I may not use my heat much, but I sure do use my Lights!!!

I Love God's days. Of course I would like longer day light hours year around for the very reasons cited by the other posters. Personally I say we should leave the clocks alone.
Fact--there is a sharp increase in the crime rates, more suicides, and basically ALL things ugly increase when the clocks are launched forward one hour in the spring. Changing the hands on the clock does NOT do one thing to change our body clocks or circadian rhythm. When we loose that hour in the spring time it just makes me feel like I am running behind on everything. Between now and when we are forced to run the clocks up I can at least feel somewhat on time. Technically there is NO longer or shorter daylight hours because of what the clock says. During the fall & winter months the sun shines less hours in each 24 hour day. During the spring & summer months it shines for more hours in each 24 hour period. What our clocks say has exactly ZERO, ZIP, NADDA, thing to do with how many hours the sun shines on any given day.
