'Resident Evil: Retribution' a Non-Stop Zombie Bloodbath

The "Resident Evil" franchise is back with a fifth movie. There is plenty of action, plenty of zombies, all in 3D. Simply put, it may be the best one yet.

Milla Jovovich jumps back into her role as Alice. This time, she is trapped inside a compound making this a great rescue mission, as she tries to escape the land of zombies in "Resident Evil: Retribution."

Fans of the franchise will love the resurrection of some familiar actors from other Resident Evil movies, along with some new ones. This film feels more like a video game than previous films because Alice has to go through different levels to escape.

The acting, overall, is not that great. But, really, fans of the franchise aren't there for that. It's all about the action, and there is plenty of it. The Moscow scene involving a Rolls-Royce car chase and Russian zombies was perhaps my favorite. But I digress.

Die-hard fans of the series should love this film and people unfamiliar with the franchise -- well, there isn't much for you here. Sorry.

The Flick-0-Meter gives "Resident Evil: Retribution" a three out of five. I happen to like Milla Jovovich. I love zombie movies, too. But, honestly, this series is about played out.

You don't really have to see any of the other Resident Evil movies to understand this one. There is a big prologue that tells you all about what has happened so far, so, give it a shot.

Non stop zombie bloodbath my butt. I love the series, and even tolerated the fact that RE:4 is basically one long trailer for RE:5. The bulk of RE:5 is NOT ZOMBIES! It's humans and background info to set up RE:6. It was entertaining, they did some very nice stuff with the zombie types that you do see, but anybody who is a fan of the series and is well versed in the movie's will definitely note the severe lack of zombie action. There really isn't much more one can say without dropping spoilers. There are zombies, very very cool ones...a few that looked ripped off from other franchises as well, but they are secondary to the non-infected stars in this RE. As far as the series being about played out...you aren't even in the ballpark with that statement. They keep saying the same crap about the game franchise as well. The Resident Evil franchise, is told in chapters, not books. Each movie made gives plot and story that enhance it's predecessors. RE:4 pulled a Back to the Future 2 "To be continued" on us. Which was irritating as hell. It is beginning to drag a bit at this point, I can agree with that. It's not RE's story that is played out, it's Milla and the hubby's telling of it. Fresh writers and input are definitely needed to bring the plot and acting up on par with effects.
