Kimberly Sadecky opened on February 14, 2011 in a tiny 600 square foot space off of the square in downtown Cumming. In six months her business exploded and she quickly outgrew the little store. On August 23 they took over old stomping ground at 250 Atlanta Road, expanding the store to 1800 square feet.
Southern Woman Resale is a plus size clothing boutique catering to curvy women sizes 14 and up. In addition to plus size fashions they carry maternity clothing in all sizes. Finding stylish and affordable clothing options in either of these categories is next to impossible. Specialty stores catering to these markets charge outrageous prices for their wares. Often times affordable women’s lines are lacking any relevance to the latest trends and fashions.
I have been a voluptuous woman for most of my adult life and my wardrobe has always been a source of frustration. Short of looking like a table cloth, tent or large jungle animal, affordable flattering clothing options are limited. I have had a blast updating and adding to my wardrobe since discovering Southern Woman Resale a few weeks ago. The frugalista in me is elated!
Sadecky says, “I just want to have a plus sized woman feel as trendy as someone that’s not, and that is what our goal is. No matter how big you are you still need to feel beautiful. A lot of designers don’t dress plus sized women. We want you to be able to come in and pull an outfit off the rack and feel just as beautiful and glamorous as somebody that has gone to any major department store.”
A new outfit wouldn’t be complete without coordinating accessories. Check out the selection of jewelry, scarves and handbags Southern Woman has to offer. The store is also an authorized dealer for coveted designer Miche bags.
Community outreach is also an integral part of Sadecky’s business philosophy. The store is a drop site for the Food for Thought program serving Cumming and Forsyth County. Clothing donations to Goodwill and the are routine. They also participate in the Overseas Coupon Program by sending manufacturers coupons to an adopted military base overseas. Expired coupons can be used up to six months past their expiration date overseas. So don’t throw away your recently expired coupons drop them off at Southern Woman Resale to be shipped to our military families overseas.
“It’s something that we’ve always wanted to do and it’s something I’ve always dreamed about doing and God just opens those doors and lays out that path…it’s all about paying it forward,” says Kimberly Sadecky about opening her shop.
