12-Year-Old Boy and Woman Injured in Forsyth Crash

The victims had to be extricated from the vehicle after it left the roadway and overturned down an embankment.

Two people were injured, including a 12-year-old boy, in a single-vehicle crash in Forsyth County late Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Chief Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department said the accident happened on Castleberry Road near the intersection of Piney Grove Road.

"The car left the roadway and overturned down an embankment and ended upside down," he said.

Fire personnel extricated both victims from the vehicle.

"A challenging situation of course, said Shivers. "There's a lot to be done to secure that vehicle and ensure the safety of the civilians and of course our safety. It's a manpower intensive operation for the first several minutes - absolutely."

The driver, an adult woman, was flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta with serious injuries. Shivers said she was in stable condition and that the boy, a passenger, was taken by EMS ground to Scottish Rite [Children's Healthcare of Atlanta] with non-life threatening injures.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. and had the roadway closed for about 90 minutes, according to Deputy Courtney Spriggs, public information officer of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

The Georgia State Patrol, Post 37, is handling the investigation and Cumming Patch will have updates when it becomes available.
