UPDATE: Woman Dies in Scooter Collision with Car in North Forsyth

UPDATE: 5:34 p.m.

A 21-year-old woman driving a motor scooter died Monday afternoon after being involved in a crash with a car earlier in the day in north Forsyth County.

Kirsti Sue Baiel, of Cumming, was driving a 2012 Zhejiang Jonway motor scooter southbound on McCoy Circle when she entered the intersection at the traffic light and was struck by a 2012 Chrysler 300, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the car, Christopher Rubessa, 20, also of Cumming, was heading westbound on Spot Road when the collision happened around 10:45 a.m.

Deputy First Class Michael Nelson reported that Baiel, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the scooter on impact. She was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth where she was pronounced dead around 2:38 p.m.

Rubessa, who was not injured, was alone in his vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

McCoy Circle and Spot Road [in north Forsyth County] has re-opened, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. The area was shut down for a brief time following an accident with injuries.

At least one person was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth. The incident is under investigation.

“The roadway near McCoy Circle and Spot Road [in north Forsyth County] is currently closed due to an accident with injuries. The road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Please use a different route if you are traveling in this area.”
