UPDATE: Another Vehicle Crashes Into Cumming Starbucks Storefront Window

It's the second accident at the coffee shop in almost two weeks.

Editor’s Note: The following story has been updated to include additional information about the accident and a statement from Starbucks.

A woman driving a Red Dodge pickup truck crashed into the storefront window of the Starbucks located on the corner of Highway 20 and Marketplace Blvd. in Cumming Monday afternoon. It’s the second accident to occur at the coffee shop in almost two weeks.

The woman, identified as Betty Gore of Cumming, had a passenger in the vehicle with her at the time of the crash, reported Cumming Police Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi.

The accident happened around 1:45 p.m., according to Capt. Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County Fire Department.

“Upon our arrival there was a civilian pickup truck that had, in fact, driven through the front of the building causing extensive damage to the windows, front door and parts of the structure,” said Shivers.

Three people were injured in the accident, including a man who was inside the coffee shop at the time of the crash. He was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with minor cuts and bruises and is in stable condition. Another customer who was inside the Starbucks during the accident, along with Gore, also suffered minor injuries, but both refused treatment, officials said.

On February 1 a similar accident occurred at the same location () where a woman driving an SUV crashed into the right-side window of the storefront shattering a few windows.

The damage done in Monday’s crash was much more severe according to Shivers.

“Most of the glass in the front of the building was taken out and quite a bit of damage was done to the structural integrity of the framing of the front wall,” added Shivers.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Cumming Police Department.

“We believe the accident occurred because the driver mistakenly hit the accelerator rather than the brake pedal,” said Police Chief Scott Burgess.

No charges will be filed against Ms. Gore, according to the police statement.

In an e-mail to Cumming Patch, Starbucks stated, “We can confirm that a car crashed into a Starbucks store location at the at 906 Buford Hwy in Cumming, GA on 2/14. Our thoughts are with the customers who were injured during the incident. Our store is closed temporarily and we hope to reopen shortly. We are working closely with the local authorities in the investigation into this incident. Any further questions should be directed to the local police department.”

When asked if Starbucks plans to put safety measures in place to possibly help prevent another accident (such as the last two) from happening again, the company stated, “Unfortunately, Starbucks does not have any further information to share at this time.”
