Arrests Made at Cumming Weight Loss Clinic

Investigators believe the office was involved in improper distribution of controlled substances.

Authorities have arrested the owner and employees of a Cumming weight loss clinic after an investigation into alleged dispensing of controlled substances.

The owner of the Doctors Weight Loss Center, Teresa Vickers, and administrative assistant Mary Wysong were arrested on Monday, while physician Dr. E. Walter Hood turned himself in on Tuesday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

According to information released by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the clinic had been under investigation since 2011 due to allegations of distribution of controlled substances. The probe ended with Vickers promising to end the suspicious activities, but continued allegations against Vickers and her clinic were made.

Vickers and Wysong face charges including conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, pre-signing blank prescriptions, practicing medicine without a license, and possession and distribution of controlled substances. Hood has been charged with conspiracy and pre-signing blank prescriptions.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency, and the Drug Enforcement Agency joined forces to investigate the Doctors Weight Loss Center.
