This activity report is a selection of local incidents from Jan. 10 – Jan. 17.

FAKE MONEY

Jan. 17, a call came in from Peachtree Parkway in reference to a fake $10 bill being passed through the drive-thru window by a 46-year-old female after ordering breakfast. The female stated that she received the bill from Taco Bell the day before and was unaware that it was a fake bill. An investigation is underway.

Jan. 17, during a routine patrol at Charleston Park, an officer approached a suspicious vehicle parked in the back of the parking lot and after investigation of the vehicle, the officer arrested a 19-year-old male on possession of marijuana.

Jan. 17, after failing to maintain his lane, an officer pulled over a 26-year-old male on Bannister Road driving a Honda Accord. Upon investigation of a strong odor emanating out of the vehicle, the officer arrested the male along with the passenger in the vehicle, a 20-year-old female. Both were charged with 2 counts of possession of marijuana. The young woman was also charged with possession of a synthetic narcotic, after several pills were found in a metal container inside her purse. 

Jan. 16, several people were arrested after police eventually pulled over a gold Acura Legend that was involved in a pursuit with police. The officer initially pursued a normal traffic stop which the driver ignored.

A second attempt was made by the police officer with his siren. As the driver continued to pass cars and pick up speed, other officers were called in for the pursuit.

As the police officer and the driver continued on State Route 53 and State Route 306 with speeds in excess of 70 m.p.h., the passenger threw a pill bottle and a plastic baggy out his window. Eventually the driver came to a stop on Pea Ridge Road. 

While waiting on back-up units to arrive, the officer held the occupants at gun point.  Officers went back to the location that was called in to dispatch to recover the items thrown out of the window and discovered a methamphetamine pipe and a pill bottle containing crushed pills. After a search of the vehicle; several syringes were found in a plastic bag. 

Following a check of their license, both the 39-year-old driver and the 25-year-old passenger were on probation and the driver had an open warrant in the Jackson County Sheriff’s office for child neglect. 

Both were arrested and charges were filed that included Attempting to Elude, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Synthetic Narcotic, Obstructing Police, Failure to Maintain Lane, Tampering with Evidence along with Wanted Persons Located.

Jan. 15, after a traffic stop for no tag light, officers arrested a 35-year-old male and his passenger, a 36-year-old female. The driver was charged with No Tag Light, Possession of Methamphetamine along with Wanted Person Located from a violation of probation in Forsyth County. 

The passenger was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and while being searched at the by jail staff, marijuana was found in the female’s bra.   

Jan. 13, after running a red light on Highway 9, an officer pulled over a 29-year-old while male. 

The male exited the vehicle and the officer then performed the standard field sobriety tests on the man which proved he was unsafe to drive. 

At this point the officer attempted to handcuff the man who began to flee from the officer and a chase began.  After several attempts to stop the man which was made more difficult due to the icy conditions on the road and grass areas, the man was finally apprehended. 

A search of the vehicle led to charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute, DUI, Open Container, Failure to Obey Lane Directional’s, Obstruction of Law Enforcement and Driving Without a Driver’s License.

Jan. 11, while on patrol an officer spotted a Ford F-150 truck doing donuts in the parking lot of the Lowe’s on Market Place Blvd. 

The officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, a 46-year-old male and charged him with Reckless Driving. Upon further investigation, the officer also charged the male with DUI, and the passenger in the car, a 44-year-old female with possession of cocaine.

THEFT INVESTIGATIONS

Jan. 15, an officer was dispatched to Founding Faith Worship Center on Atlanta Highway to obtain information concerning a burglary in which several items were stolen; ( two 15” JBL, black, self-powered speakers, two 15” JBL, floor monitor speakers, one 400 watt JBL amplifier, one LCD projector, five Sanhauser microphones, one Countrymen  processor 600 model , five cymbals to a drum set and one Korg X3 keyboard). 

Any information regarding this incident should be reported to the office.  

Jan. 11, a person of small statue wearing gloves, a hard helmet, grey jacket and blue jeans was seen on camera stealing items from the on Dahlonega Road and State Route 9. 

Cumming Police officers responded to the burglary and saw that the front plate glass window was shattered. Officers searched the store, but the suspect had already fled the scene. 

An itemized list of things taken included; cigarettes, incense, glass pipes, detox body cleaner and digital scales were recorded with an approximate value of $11,000.   

ANIMAL ATTACKS

Jan. 15, a report was made when a 53-year-old female was bitten by a neighbor’s dog, weighing more than 100 pounds, while walking her grandson in the neighborhood on Moss Creek Drive.

The dog was not on a lease and was in the middle of the cul-de-sac when the incident occurred.  The female was bitten above her right thigh and was only reported as a superficial wound.  

Jan. 15, three dogs attacked and killed a resident’s cat on her property on Tallantworth Trail.  The cat’s owner was able to obtain pictures of the attack from her cell phone and Animal Control has been contacted.

DUI

Jan. 14, an officer was called in to assist the medical team in which they were dispatched for a vehicle that had ran off the road at Old Atlanta Road and Spring Drive. 

Upon arrival the officer learned that medics had found the male slumped over his steering wheel. The medical/fire team released the male to the officer for further information. The officer then arrested the 58-year-old male and charged him with DUI, Failure to Maintain Lane and Open Container.

GUN FOUND

Jan.14, a resident of the Old Towne Bethleview subdivision found a.25 caliber Berretta handgun along with eight .25 caliber bullets, one .25 Beretta magazine and a pocket holster for the handgun next to her home while walking her dog. 

An officer was called and no record has been found for the handgun at this point.

RECKLESS DRIVING

Jan. 13, a 27-year-old Hispanic male was arrested after illegally passing a vehicle in a double yellow lane area and endangering two other vehicles during icy conditions.  The driver was charged with Reckless Driving and Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License.
