A 26-year-old man is out on bond, following a two-vehicle crash that killed a 50-year-old man from Cumming.
Soo Wan Kim of Norcross was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield while turning left, according to a Gwinnett County Police report. He was booked into jail just after 9 p.m. on Friday, July 26, and then released the next day.
Kim, who was driving southbound in a 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder, turned left on South Old Peachtree Road into the path of a motorcycle, heading northbound, driven by Joe Edward Vaughn, of Cumming.
Vaughn, who was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHRI, slammed into the passenger side of Kim's vehicle and was killed, the accident report stated.
Kim sustained minor injuries to the right side of his body.
Authorities say the investigation continues.
According to Vaughn's obituary, he was a graduate of Forsyth County High School (Class of 1980) and worked for Stewart Brothers for 33 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cruising on his motorcycle and was a backyard mechanic with his father.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 3, from 10–2 p.m. at McDonald and Son Funeral Home. A motorcycle ride will follow the visitation – kickstands up at 2 p.m. at Good Ole Days, 419 Atlanta Road, Cumming, for a favorite ride in memory of “JoVaughn.” Afterwards, friends are invited to Good Ole Days at 4 p.m. to celebrate his life.
