Cumming Man Charged with Dragging Dog Behind Truck

Miguel Lechuga Sanchez arrested Wednesday afternoon in Cumming and charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, and animal cruelty.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says a Cumming man was arrested and charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, and animal cruelty after allegedly dragging a German Shepherd behind a pickup truck on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Officer Robin Regan, just after 4:30 p.m., authorities received a 911 call about a dog being dragged behind a vehicle. A witness reported seeing a German Shepherd tied with a leash to a pickup truck driving on Ronald Reagan Blvd near State Route 141.

A sheriff’s office investigator in an unmarked vehicle observed the pickup truck two minutes after the call was dispatched and stopped the vehicle due to the nature of the incident. Patrol deputies responded minutes later and quickly determined the dog needed immediate attention from a veterinarian.

A patrol deputy rushed the dog, who is expected to survive, to a local animal hospital where it was treated for injuries to the front paws and bruising around the neck.

The driver, 41-year-old Miguel Lechuga Sanchez, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, and animal cruelty, all misdemeanors.

He was taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center where he he remained on Wednesday night on a $4,680.50 bond.
