Cumming Man Victim in Fatal Accident in Alpharetta

The accident caused police to close lanes for several hours on Georgia 400 and the northbound entrance ramp from Haynes Bridge Road.

A 67-year-old Cumming man has been identified as the victim in a fatal accident in Alpharetta on the morning of April 11.

Edward Kivlin was dead at the scene, according to Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesman George Gordon.

The initial investigation by the traffic enforcement unit indicates a red Honda Civic left its northbound lane on the entrance ramp to Georgia 400 from Haynes Bridge Road. It struck a maroon Nissan Pathfinder traveling in an adjacent lane. Both drivers lost control as their vehicles slid into a grass gore area off the roadway next to the Haynes Bridge northbound ramp area. The Nissan Pathfinder continued out of control sliding across the Haynes Bridge northbound ramp roadway.

After the Nissan was initially struck by the Honda Civic, it slid off the roadway into the grass gore area and struck a guardrail. The Nissan Pathfinder overturned a number of times and went down an embankment. A white Dodge minivan traveling down the ramp from Georgia 400 northbound from Haynes Bridge Road struck the Honda Civic.

The driver of the Nissan suffered fatal injuries.

The driver of the Honda Civic was transported to North Fulton Hospital with a complaint of injury. The driver of the minivan was uninjured.

Alpharetta's 911-dispatch center received the first call at 10:21 a.m. on April 11.

The accident caused two lanes of GA 400 and the entrance ramp to be closed. All lanes of Georgia 400 and the entrance ramp had reopened by 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
