Deputy Sheriff William McConnell Jr. Recognized by His Peers

"Awareness and attention to detail" earns Deputy Sheriff July's Deputy of the Month honor.

The North Precinct of the names Deputy Sheriff William McConnell Jr. "Deputy of the Month" for July. He was selected due to his “awareness and attention to detail," according to Capt. Mark Flowers, North Precinct Commander.

On July 14, while patrolling the Lake Forest subdivision, an area where several burglaries and auto break-ins had occurred recently, McConnell noticed three suspicious looking men walking down the street.

McConnell stopped and questioned the men who told him they were painting a fence located at a nearby pond. But McConnell noticed they were not carrying any paint with them, so he took their names and addresses.

He gave this information to investigators working on the subdivision burglaries. They in turn discovered that two of the men McConnell had questioned were involved in the suspected crimes. This lead to an arrest by Criminal Investigations.

“Deputy Sheriff McConnell went above and beyond the call of duty,” Flowers said. “The information he had gathered assisted in making arrests associated with these burglaries and entering autos.”
