Driver Killed In Single-Car Accident

Fatality accident shuts down Sanders Road for several hours Thursday morning.

UPDATED: 6:50 p.m.

A 51-year-old Cumming man was killed following a single-vehicle accident on Sanders Road, south of Maple Lake Road, Thursday morning around 6:45.

According to Investigator Ron Tomblin, with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Myung Youl Park was traveling north around a sharp curve on Sanders Road in a 2002 Ford Explorer.

The right side tires of the SUV went off the edge of the roadway, and when Park's tried to correct the error that's when he lost control of his vehicle.

The Explorer ended up striking a culvert which caused it to flip and land in a creek where it was partially submerged in water.Β

Capt. Jason Shivers, with the Forsyth County Fire Department, said a passing school bus driver called the accident in around 8 this morning. The driver reported seeing the wheels of an overturned vehicle in a body of water.

"Upon our arrival of our first engine company, Engine 15, they confirmed a vehicle overturned in a cove area of Lake Lanier off Sanders Road," said Shivers.
