Driver Slams into Diesel Pump

Video released of driver hitting car and then diesel pump at Cumming gas station.

A Honda Accord left the roadway Monday morning, struck a parked vehicle, then slammed into a diesel gas pump at the Shell station on Canton Road/SR 20 and Elm Street in Cumming, police said in a statement.

The driver, a 39-year-old Cumming man, was transported to North Fulton Hospital by Forsyth County EMS for minor injuries. EMS personnel on scene told police that a seizure was a possible cause of the accident, but that further medical investigation would follow.

Police said the accident caused serious damage to both the driver’s vehicle and a parked vehicle in the adjacent parking lot. Pieces of the broken gas pump also damaged a third vehicle.

The diesel pump safety cutoff activated, preventing leakage from the gas station’s holding tanks.

Charges are pending for the driver, Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi said in the police statement.
