Forsyth County Deputy Recognized for Catching Armed Robbers

Sheriff's Office names Deputy First Class Mike Nelson "Deputy of the Month."

The  Precinct of the names Deputy First Class Mike Nelson its “Deputy of the Month” for May 2011.

According to Capt. Ron Freeman, South Precinct Commander, DFC Nelson was selected because of his response to an armed robbery call on May 6 at the McDonald's on McGinnis Ferry Road in south Forsyth County.

While responding to the call, DFC Nelson encountered a vehicle leaving the area and noticed that one of the occupants of the vehicle matched the description of the suspected robber. Nelson also noticed a drive out tag on the vehicle and quickly performed a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop Nelson noticed several objects in the car that were consistent with the information relayed about the armed robbery.

It was DFC Nelson's quick action and attention to detail that lead to charges of armed robbery against the suspects and an employee of the fast-food restaurant, according to Capt. Freeman.
