Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Joins Social Networks

In an effort to communicate quickly, accurately, and to the masses, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is now on Twitter and Facebook.

When Facebook originated back in 2003 years ago, it was a social network for Harvard college students. It expanded to include other college and universities and eventually the world. Today it can save lives, educate, and inform.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that it has joined the social network, as well as Twitter, in an effort to disseminate information to a vast number of residents in a timely manner.

“It became very clear to me that we could reach a number of citizens relatively quickly by joining the social networks Facebook and Twitter,” said Sheriff Ted Paxton in a release.

In addition to Nixle, a notification service currently in use by law enforcement, Facebook and Twitter will be incorporated as means to share information in a way that is expedient and handy.

According to Paxton, the sites can be used to share information regarding things such as wanted subjects to crime prevention tips to events and even road closures. By using social media Paxton hopes to include the community in the efforts of law enforcement to work together.
