Forsyth County's K-9 Unit Helps In Major Drug Bust

A Norcross man is arrested after he runs from traffic stop and allegedly carjacks one vehicle before a second motorist fights off a second attempt.

A car chase that Milton police say included an alleged carjacking resulted in the arrest on March 15 of a Norcross man with seven pounds of what police identified as marijuana and $85,000 in his car–along with his 6-year-old son.

The 28-year-old suspect, Monroe Le-beau III, was stopped on Deerfield Parkway at Fawnvista Lane in Milton for allegedly speeding at 10:21 p.m. on Tuesday. Officers noticed his 2007 white Dodge Charger allegedly smelled of marijuana and asked him to step out of the vehicle. A news release by Milton Communications Manager Jason Wright said that according to a police report, the suspect refused to leave the car, citing the fact that his son was in the car.

While being questioned outside the vehicle, the suspect allegedly ran from officers down Morris Road toward Morris Lake subdivision, leaving his child behind. Milton police gave chase and found him hiding in the back seat of a 40-year-old Alpharetta man's gold Toyota Avalon, which he had allegedly carjacked.

Le-beau again allegedly ran, this time heading down Fasherstone Drive. Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputies brought a K-9 unit, tracking him to a marshy area on Fasherstone Drive. Police report Le-beau ran once again, this time allegedly trying to carjack a 53-year-old Alpharetta man's BMW. The victim fought back, however, and Le-beau was forced to run toward Lathenview Court, where he was apprehended after being bit twice by a police dog.

Milton police reported finding a large sum of cash on Le-beau, plus money in his car totaling nearly $85,000. Officers also reported finding seven pounds of marijuana and a "Marijuana Grower's Bible" in the car.
