Forsyth Investigators Arrest Man in Carjacking, Armed Robbery

Forsyth County investigators arrest a suspect wanted for allegedly stealing a family member's car and guns who also is wanted in nearby Alpharetta for armed robbery and carjacking.

A 31-year-old man, a resident of Atlanta, has been arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking and a separate armed robbery in nearby Alpharetta last week, and on car theft and gun theft charges in Forsyth County.

The armed robbery took place at , a Windward Parkway business, on Aug. 17 at 12:49 p.m., according to George Gordon, spokesperson for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. The carjacking took place in the parking lot of a local mall on Aug. 17 at 8:40 p.m.

Since then, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigative Division has been conducting investigations. They learned from other law enforcement agencies that the suspect was believed to be involved in other violent crimes in Forsyth County and in Duluth.

fugitive squad went into Sandy Springs to search for the suspect. The suspect was wanted in Forsyth for allegedly stealing a 2009 Chevy Tahoe and two handguns – a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver and a 1911 Colt 45, both with ammunition – from a family member on Aug. 17 at Ivey Walk subdivision in Cumming.

Based upon a description of the suspect and the stolen vehicle description provided by Alpharetta detectives, he was located and taken into custody in a joint effort with the Sandy Springs police department.

The suspect was still operating the stolen Kia Soul taken in the Alpharetta carjacking incident. At the time of the arrest, police found the victim’s wallet and seized a loaded .38 revolver.

Gordon said the suspect confessed to the carjacking in Alpharetta.

Edward Kim, 31, has been charged by Alpharetta police with:

  • Hijacking of a motor vehicle- felony
  • Kidnapping- felony
  • Armed robbery (2 counts) - felony
  • Cruelty to children (carjacking victim was a juvenile 16 years old)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime-felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon- felony
  • Aggravated assault- felony
  • Terroristic threats

Other agencies will file their own criminal charges against Kim.

The arrest information was supplied by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. It does not indicate a conviction.
