Forsyth Sheriff: Marx Wanted to Attach Bombs to Hostages

Thwarted courthouse attacker apparently planned to physically link hostages together by attaching homemade explosives to them.

The Cumming man armed with an assault rifle, handguns and explosives who attempted an assault on the Forsyth County courthouse on Friday apparently planned to physically link hostages together by attaching homemade explosives to them.

Dennis Marx, who was wearing two sets of bulletproof vests, was shot and killed by sheriff deputies before he was able to gain entry into the courthouse.

As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, Forsyth County Duane Piper said Marx was going to start grabbling people if he was able to storm the building. “He was coming there to occupy that courthouse and kill as many people as he could,” Piper told the news outlet.

After the attack, investigators found several more explosive devices at Marx’s home, which is located not far from Bald Ridge Marina Road east of Cumming.

As of early Saturday morning, all roads around the courthouse were re-opened. Authorities say the courthouse building will be closed until damage from the shootout is repaired.
