Forsyth Sheriff's Office Arrest Man for Car Break-ins, Stolen Credit Cards

Dawsonville man allegedly broke into cars and stole iPhones, children's clothing and several credit cards.

Authorities this week arrested and charged a 34-year-old man suspected of breaking into cars in south Forsyth County and stealing credit cards among other items.

Charles Butterworth of Holcomb Road, in Dawsonville, has been charged with two counts of entering auto, three counts of financial card fraud, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects.

On Friday, July 27, a vehicle parked at "," located at 2627 Peachtree Parkway was broken into, according to Investigator Mike Garrison of the. Several items including an iPhone, two wallets and credit cards were stolen.

Butterworth allegedly began making purchases totaling a little more than $2,000, at several Target and Lowe's stores on the same day of the break-in.

One of the unauthorized purchases, made on a company credit card that was stolen from the vehicle, sent a red flag to the company and the owner of the vehicle that something was wrong.

The next day, July 28, a second vehicle was broken into at the CVS Pharmacy located at 450 Peachtree Parkway while the owner was shopping in the store. Butterworth is accussed of taking an iphone 4, another phone, and about $900 worth of newly-purchased children’s clothing that was going to be donated.

Authorities report that during this theft a description was secured of Butterworth and his possible vehicle.

Then on Sunday morning, July 29, deputies located a vehicle that matched the description of Butterworth's vehicle at a residence located on Hulsey Road, in east Forsyth County.

“We identified the man at the residence as the person who had been entering the autos," said Sheriff Ted Paxton. "After a search of the residence, several items were located that were taken from the vehicles and were purchased using the stolen credit cards."

It's believed that Butterworth has been involved in other car break-ins and credit card fraud transactions in several other jurisdictions, according to Paxton.

Butterworth is being held without bond at the .

“This case is still active and ongoing," said Paxton. "We are still identifying other potential victims.”
