Man Walks Away From Stolen Vehicle

Dec. 23 - While on patrol, a deputy with the FCSO noticed a vehicle with its lights on parked at a closed gas station on Dahlonega Street. As he went in for a closer look, he saw a man walking away from the vehicle on the opposite side of the street and also noticed that the vehicle lights were now turned off.

While calling for assistance he ran the tag number which came back as a stolen vehicle out of Gainesville. Another deputy arrived at the scene and was given the description of the man leaving the vehicle. Minutes later the suspect was found and taken into custody. As authorities were inspecting the interior of the vehicle they find several items including the suspects cell phone, a sleeping bag and clothing along with family photos of the vehicle’s owners.

The suspect was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, a felony.

Suspect Involved in Hit and Run, Has Second Accident

Dec. 22 - A deputy with the called into dispatch that he was helping a stranded motorist in a Mercedes. While he was on the call the driver of the vehicle drove away. The deputy immediately followed the vehicle in and out of a subdivision and along Buford Highway near the county line. The deputy also noticed that the driver failed to yield at a red light located near James Burgess Road. At this point the deputy initiated his blue lights, but the driver ignored his action and kept moving.

Minutes later the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck the center median. The deputy noted when he arrived at the accident scene the vehicle was on top of the median and smoke was spewing from the engine.

The driver, a 49-year-old woman, told the deputy she was just trying to get home from a club in Gwinnett County. During the investigation, dispatch was advised to check with Gwinnett County authorities to see if there had been any accidents reported earlier. As it turns out a hit and run was reported in Dacula with the suspect being identified as the woman in the Mercedes.

The woman was arrested and taken to the . During an inventory of her belongings, the jail staff discovered a counterfeit $20 bill. The suspect told the deputy she knew the bill was fake, but that it was her “lucky” money.

The suspect was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and collision with a county fixture.

Thieves Get Free Car Washes

Dec. 20 - The received a call from someone affiliated with a car wash located on Business Drive in Cumming. The person reported that approximately $6000 had been spent to repair leaking pumps at the establishment due to running water that was not properly turned off.

Video surveillance shows several suspects washing their vehicles, but not paying for those car washes. Authorities believe the suspects had a way of turning on the water pumps without using any money. The damage to the water pumps may have been caused because the suspects never turned off the pumps, allowing thousands of gallons of water to flow out and flood a nearby street. An investigation is underway.

Loud Music, Tinted Windows and Obstructed Tag Leads to Arrests

Dec. 20 - During a patrol near Greenway Parkway, a FCSO deputy made two arrests following a traffic stop of a black Lexus for obstruction of a vehicle tag.

As the deputy was approaching the passenger side window of the vehicle he saw four men inside. The incident reports states that the deputy had to tell the driver to turn the music down because it was so loud he could not talk with any of the men. The deputy also noticed a strong odor of fresh burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy then asked the driver to exit the vehicle.

The investigation lead to finding marijuana located inside the vehicle's console along with a grinder and glass pipe. It was also discovered that one of the men had an open warrant from the Snellville Police Department and was arrested.

The driver was also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and no license plate.

Fire:

Dec. 19 - 25 - During Christmas week there were 208 incident calls reported, according to Capt. Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County Fire Department. The incidents around the county included, one structure fire with no injuries, one chimney fire, one vehicle fire, 135 medical emergencies, three gas leaks, five downed power lines, 25 cancelled in route calls, one no incident found, two authorized controlled burn calls, two smoke scares and 10 false alarms.
