GA 400 Driver Darted In, Out of Traffic, Drove in Emergency Lane

The Cumming man was arrested and charged with DUI, fleeing or eluding police and several other counts.

A Cumming man led police on a brief chase after darting in and out of traffic and driving in the emergency lane during rush hour on GA 400, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Rainwater.

Calvin Spurlin, 38, also was allegedly speeding, prompting four other motorists to call 911 on his vehicle as it traveled northbound at McFarland Road about 4 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31.

Deputies caught up with Spurlin on GA 400 at highways 306 and 369 and a chase ensued, with Spurlin allegedly "momentarily" eluding authorities, Rainwater said. Spurlin drove into the Hamptons subdivision and came to stop in an effort to hide from police, according to Rainwater.

Spurlin, who had no insurance and an unregistered vehicle, was arrested and charged with DUI, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude police and several other counts.
