Head On Collision Kills Cumming Man

The accident happened Thursday morning on A.C. Smith Road.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office report a 56-year-old Cumming man was killed in a head on collision Thursday morning on A.C. Smith Road in the northern part of the county.

According to Sgt. Chris Shelton with the Sheriff’s Office, Roger L. Adkins was traveling eastbound on A.C. Smith Road in his Ford Tempo, when he crossed the double yellow line and collided head on with a sanitation truck owned by Sanitation Solutions Incorporated. The driver of that truck, Shane Mullins, 35 of Cumming, was traveling westbound when the accident occurred.

Soon after impact was made between the two vehicles, Adkins' car was pushed backwards, where it came to rest on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of A.C. Smith Road.

Authorities report Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Mullins and his passenger, Joseph J. Juriga also of Cumming, did not suffer any injuries.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. and shutdown A.C. Smith Road for almost two hours this morning.

Sgt. Shelton reported no charges have been filed at this time and that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
