Hostage Situation Underway in North Forsyth County
Forsyth County's SWAT team is on the scene of a hostage situation on Burruss Mill Rd in the northeastern part of the county.
A man is claiming to hold a woman hostage inside a home at 5755 Burruss Mill Road in northeastern Forsyth County and threatening suicide, authorities said.
According to Capt. Tim House, a call came in around 1:37 a.m. from the ex-girlfriend of the suspect, Scott Whelchel, who said he had beat up his current girlfriend and was holding her hostage.
"Uniform Patrol arrived on the scene, tried to make contact with him, tried to talk to him, talk him out with no avail," said House. "So SWAT and crisis negotiators were brought in to negotiate with him about 4 o'clock this morning."
