Man Charged in Fatality Wreck on Highway 20

The driver of the box truck is charged with vehicular homicide.

Authorities have charged a 44-year-old man on Highway 20 in front of the  in South Forsyth County.

Stephen John Simone of 2200 Skylar Leigh Drive in Buford is charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, a misdemeanor, according to Capt. Mark Hoffman with Special Operations of the .

The victim, 52-year-old Carey James Abee, of 42 Vickie Drive in Dawsonville, was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 on his 2011 Taizhou Meiduo Scooter when his vehicle was struck by Simone's vehicle.

Simone who was traveling westbound on Highway 20 in a 2006 Isuzu box truck was making a left turn onto Windermere Parkway, but failed to yield the right of way to Abee causing the accident, according to Capt. Tim House with the Sheriff's Office.

Simone’s truck drove over the scooter, hit the Windermere sign causing the truck to turn over on its right side pinning Abee under it.

Several people who were at the scene of the wreck were able to lift the truck and remove Abee who was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth where he later died.
