Man Drowns at Lake Lanier
A 33-year-old man is the second drowning victim this summer at Lake Lanier.
A 33-year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon, June 23, at Lake Lanier, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
The Lawrenceville man was on a float, but jumped into the water and never resurfaced. The incident happened in the Athens Park Road area, which is located off Highway 369 in northeast Forsyth County.
Divers with the Hall County Fire Department were already working in the area and responded to the scene. The dive team recovered the man’s body around 4:30 p.m. in the same area where he was last seen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities said he was out at the lake with friends.
Forsyth County deputies said the cove where the man was located is about 40 feet deep in some locations. The man, who was with friends, was on a float that measured 8 feet by 10 feet.
It's the second drowning of the summer at the lake. Earlier in June, a woman from nearby Suwanee was a drowning victim.
