A medical condition may have caused a single-vehicle accident in south Forsyth County Thursday evening that sent a man to the hospital, according authorities.

Charles Hawkins, 37, of Cumming, lost control of his 2008 Ford Explorer around 6 p.m. on Bentley Road near Ivey Manor Drive when he suffered a "medical seizure."

"Apparently [he] lost control of his car and traveled through a couple of people's yards and then crossed the roadway and struck a tree, which is where the vehicle stopped," said Deputy Courtney Spriggs, public information officer of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. A photo shows the vehicle being towed from where it stopped.

Hawkins had to be extricated from the vehicle and when he was free, he was taken to North Fulton Hospital by ambulance. But Spriggs did not know the extent of his injuries, if any, caused by the accident.

Spriggs also said that Hawkins lived near where the accident happened.
