Mother of Sick Twins Faces More Charges

Additional charges have been filed against a Cumming woman and her boyfriend.

More charges have been filed against a Cumming woman, whose twin boys became sick on Monday from undetermined causes, according to officials (see story).

Laurel Corrine Gray, 29, of Cumming is charged with Reckless Conduct, Hindering the Apprehension of a Fugitive and Tampering with Evidence. Her boyfriend, Michael Robert Conley, 28, also of Cumming, has been charged with Reckless Conduct and Obstruction.

According to investigators, Gray knew that Conley was wanted for questioning by investigators regarding the events that led to the children becoming seriously ill.

“She provided monetary assistance to him while he was on the run, therefore hindering the apprehension of a fugitive,” Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said.

Officials also discovered that Gray allegedly destroyed evidence pertinent to the investigation. The Reckless Conduct charges stemmed from Gray and Conley having unprescribed medications in the home, unsecured and accessible to her children.

Investigators reported that Conley fled after the children were taken to Egleston for treatment on Monday. His Misdemeanor Obstruction charge developed from being unavailable to officials who were trying to reach him and ask about the types of medications that were in the home and the amount that was missing.

The latest charges are in addition to the ones filed Thursday, Possession of Marijuana (more than one ounce) and Intent to Distribute.  Gray is also charged with Obstruction (see story).

During the initial search of the couple’s home, a double wide modular home located at 5959 John Burruss Rd. in North Forsyth County, investigators found marijuana and evidence that indicated distribution of marijuana.

One of the twin’s remains in critical condition at Egleston, his 4-year-old brother and 3-year-old sister are in the custody of the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFACS).

The investigation continues according to Sheriff Paxton.

“The GBI Crime Lab is trying to isolate the drugs. We are still waiting on a toxicology report,” Paxton added.

As for Gray and Conley, they have not posted bond and remain in the Forsyth County Detention Center.
