Murder Charges Filed in Beating Death of Cumming Toddler

Christopher E.Truett has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated battery in the death this week of Wyatt Pruitt at a Roseman Landing home.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane K. Piper has confirmed that Christopher E.Truett has been charged with felony murder, malice murder and aggravated battery in the death of Wyatt Pruitt, 3, of Cumming. These charges were upgraded from Wednesday’s charges of cruelty to children and reckless conduct.

Piper said the preliminary autopsy report from the Ga. Bureau of Investigation (G.B.I.) states that the child died as a result of blunt force trauma.

The 3-year-old was reported unresponsive by Truett on Tuesday morning at a home in north Forsyth County. The child’s mother, Dawn Schutts, started CPR on her child while on the phone with 911. Truett fled the residence while emergency responders were in route to the residence and ran into some nearby woods where he was located a short time later by law enforcement.

The child was transported to Northside Forsyth Hospital in Cumming where he was pronounced dead.

Truett remains in the Forsyth County Detention Center.

Murder charges have been reportedly brought against a man on Friday who was arrested this week in connection to the murder of a 3-year-old boy in Cumming.

During the midday telecast, WSB-TV reported that following pulmonary autopsy reports from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Christopher E.Truett, 25, has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated battery in the death of Wyatt Pruitt at a Roseman Landing home.

On Wednesday, Truett was charged with cruelty to children in the 1st degree and reckless conduct. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Truett had been babysitting the boy for his mother when the Tuesday morning incident occurred in the Bridgetowne subdivision.

A family member told the Atlanta news outlet that Pruitt was a “very good boy,” with a great imagination.

A Monday funeral is reportedly being planned.
