Officials Break Ground for New Forsyth County Fire Station

West Forsyth County will soon get a new fire station serving the Ducktown area.

Forsyth County officials took shovels to hand and officially broke ground for the county's new fire station on Monday, Nov. 14.

The new Fire Station 4 will be located at 3910 Evans Road, adjacent to the current station at 3805 Canton Highway in West Forsyth County serving the Ducktown area. The approximately 7,333-square foot facility, will have two bays for emergency vehicles and living quarters for firefighters on duty.

"It's a new station that's being purpose built for modern, 24-hour occupancy based on the fire department today and for future growth," said Capt. Jason Shivers with the.

The existing station, constructed by volunteers in 1974, has far exceeded its life expectancy and according to Shivers, "was never really intended for full time occupancy."

The project is funded by SPLOST VI and Impact Fees, and is slated for completion in the fall of 2012.
