One Arrested in Forsyth County for Meth Trafficking

Authorities said the street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at $33,600.

A 22-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with methamphetamine trafficking, according to authorities.

Pedro Aguilar-Lopez, of Rosemont Parkway in Roswell, was taken into custody by the Narcotics Unit of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

The arrest was part of a controlled buy, according to investigators. Just before 3 p.m. deputies stopped Aguilar-Lopez, who traveled to Forsyth County with the one-half pound of methamphetamine in his 2004 Acura TL, as he pulled into a business at The Collection at Forsyth on Peachtree Parkway.

Following his arrest, deputies searched his car that resulted in locating the drugs. Aguilar-Lopez then admitted to having additional methamphetamine at his home in Roswell, and a consensual search yielded an additional one-fourth pound of methamphetamine and a .45 caliber handgun. Authorities said the street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at $33,600.

The investigation was a joint effort involving the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Roswell Police Department and Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA).

“I am very proud of our cooperation with other agencies in this case and the work our Narcotics Unit does to rid our community of drugs,” said Sheriff Duane K. Piper. “Meth and other dangerous drugs are directly linked to other crimes in Forsyth County, and we’ll continue to do everything we can to eradicate them.”

UPDATE: 4-24-13, 6:04 p.m. (comment from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office)

Phillip W. Price, Commander of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, told Patch in an e-mail that agents of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) were conducting a methamphetamine related investigation when information was developed that identified Aguilar-Lopez as a major source of supply for Cherokee County.

"CMANS Agents were told that Aguilar-Lopez would be meeting in Forsyth County later the next day," said Price. "CMANS Agents worked with Agents of the GBI and Forsyth County Narcotics to identify and arrest Aguilar-Lopez when he appeared for the meeting."

Aguilar-Lopez is currently being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond.

"Drug dealers often try to exploit the jurisdictional boundaries that law enforcement officers are bound by, but they fail to count on the strong relationships that exist between the CMANS, the GBI, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the other agencies fighting drugs in the north Metro Area," Price added.
