Pet Dies In House Fire

The ’s overall incident calls were down from the previous week of 250 to 194 for the week of March 21 - March 28. Medical emergencies accounted for the majority of the decrease, being down from 147 to 109 for the week.

A family pet was lost in a 2-alarm house fire on 2605 Bettis Tripple Gap Road. The fire happened on Friday, March 25, around 3:26 p.m. The home was already heavily involved when the firefighters arrived resulting in a total loss. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

This week’s incident calls consisted of three vehicle fires, six brush fires, 109 medical emergencies, two gas leaks, five down power lines, one carbon monoxide leak, 20 cancelled in route calls, two smoke scares, 18 false alarms, two structure fires and two lightening strikes that were confirmed to be of no danger.

THEFT FROM A MAILBOX

March 28, a resident in Coventry subdivision reported he had seen a black sport utility vehicle pull up to his mailbox and that the driver must have removed a piece of outgoing mail.

The report stated that a $200 check was put in the mailbox to pay a credit card bill and now it had been stolen. The owner reported this to the Sheriff’s Office and also froze his credit card and checking accounts to prevent the suspect from using both accounts.

LAND ROVER PURCHASED WITH FALSE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

March 28, a deputy from the received a call from a lady in reference to her Social Security number being used by someone fraudulently. 

The woman stated that someone had purchased a 2007 Land Rover from Keffer Volkswagen in Huntersville, NC valued at $40,300 using her Social Security number. An investigation is underway.

FIVE PURCHASES MADE WITH STOLEN CREDIT CARD

March 27, officers from the responded to a call from a man that noticed his Discover credit card was missing. He informed the officers that he had lunch at and must have left it at the restaurant. Once he determined it was not in his possession, he called the credit card company.

Discover informed him that five purchases had already been made within a 30-minute time frame at Wal-Mart, , and Race Trac. Best Buy and Dick’s Sporting Goods reported that they have video coverage of these purchases and this should provide them with the information needed to make an arrest.

HOUSE RANSACKED

March 25, deputies were dispatched to Bethelview Road in reference to a burglary call. Upon arrival they met with a woman who was sitting in her car along with her children. She told them she was afraid to re-enter her home since it had been ransacked.

Upon inspection of the home they determined that a forced entry was made from the rear entry door. Apparently someone tried to pull the entertainment center away from the wall to disconnect the wires to remove the TV. The master bedroom and the guest bedroom’s mattresses had been turned up and things tossed all around.

Items determined to have been stolen were two rings, two pressure washers, two paint sprayers, a desktop computer and monitor, a Sony stereo, a Toshiba TV, an LG surround sound system with DVD player, a Sony Play Station and an air compressor. The items stolen had an approximate value of $7000.

NO TAG LIGHT RESULTS IN COCAINE ARREST

March 24, a deputy on routine patrol noticed a vehicle with no tag light and initiated a traffic stop. The deputy observed the occupants in the vehicle moving around inside the vehicle and the driver was very hesitant about pulling over.

After approaching the vehicle the deputy was alarmed due to the driver having gang related tattoos and three other occupants in the vehicle. The deputy called for backup.   

Once backup arrived they were able to run the suspect's license through the Georgia Crime Information Center. They learned that the driver had multiple gun related felony warrants in surrounding counties and was considered armed and dangerous; with this information they handcuffed the driver.

K-9 units were called in and the vehicle was searched. They found a green plastic bag in the floorboard filled with a white powdery substance along with a clear plastic bag in the center console filled with a white powdery substance. It was determined to be cocaine.

The driver was then charged with possession of cocaine, expired tag, underage consumption/possession of alcohol, two counts of misdemeanor wanted person located and eight felony counts of wanted person located. The male passenger was also arrested and charged with underage consumption of alcohol.
