Two 1860’s Headstones Stolen

July 11, two women who belong to the Forsyth County Historical Society reported to a deputy that a theft had occurred in what used to be known as Diana’s Church cemetery. The cemetery now belongs to the Preserve at Etowah subdivision’s homeowners association.

It was reported that two headstones built in the late 1860’s had been found in a ditch along Highway 369 by a local resident sometime last September and that the gentleman notified them of his findings. He told them he would hold onto them for safe keeping. The women stated they now have requested that the male return the headstones to the cemetery but that he has not returned any of their phone calls.

The women also told the deputy, the area where the man and woman had been laid to rest had been dug up and desecrated sometime in the 1970’s, since it was rumored that they were buried with $300 in gold. It was also reported last month that someone had used some type of machinery to open up the coffins.

Road Rage

July 9, a 21-year-old man called 911 to report that he was forced off the roadway on Georgia 400 near Highway 20. He told dispatch that a woman had also pointed a gun at him while they were in motion.

The man stated to the deputy that he continued to follow the silver 2006 Acura. They came to the intersection at Haw Creek Road where the Acura RSX with tag WF255M, stopped in front of him and a woman carrying a 9mm handgun and a man carrying a knife exited their vehicle and started walking towards his car.

Fearing for his safety he put his car in reverse and while backing up hit a wooden fence. He then went to a nearby gas station and waited for deputies to arrive at the scene.

Female Entrapped In Hit And Run Accident

July 9, dispatch was notified of a hit and run accident on Georgia 400 just north of exit 13. The witness stated that a vehicle had left the roadway and was not visible. The other vehicle which left the scene, a white Mercedes bearing Texas tag BW9J673, was seen exiting the Buford Highway east ramp.

When the deputy arrived on the scene he located a 2003 Mercury Sable that had extensive damage to it located approximately 100 feet off the roadway with a woman entrapped. All doors of the vehicle were smashed inward and the deputy was unable to extricate her.

Moments later the and an Emergency Medical Team arrived on scene to find the woman unconscious and gasping for air. An investigation is underway.

Blood Alcohol Level .225

July 9, a deputy observed a gray GMC Yukon on Highway 20 turning left onto Ronald Regan Boulevard traveling on the wrong side of the roadway.

A field test determined the driver, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, was impaired. He was arrested and agreed to a breath test resulting in a reading of .225. He was charged with Driving On The Wrong Side of Road, Failure to Maintain Lane, DUI and Driving Without a Valid License.

Swindled Out Of Vacation Deposit

July 8, a woman came into the office to report a scam. She reported to the deputy that she had been corresponding by Internet with a man who had a condo for rent in Panama City Beach, Florida and that she had mailed a check in April for $350 to reserve the condo.  

The check was cashed on April 22 and on June 19, she received an e-mail from the man advising her that he had sold the condo and would be refunding her money. Her husband talked with the renter on July 2 and he said he mailed the check around June 23. As of the reported date she has not received a refund and no other communication with the renter has taken place.

Palm Trees Stolen

July 5, the owner of restaurant called in a theft report. A deputy met with the owner who stated that sometime after 10 p.m. on July 4, a white man was seen on video surveillance taking two palm tree plants and the stone planters that were located in front of her restaurant. The owner believes it may be a regular customer and is having the security company make a copy of the video.

Fire

Total incident counts from the Forsyth County Fire Department for the week of July 4 – July 11 were 218. They responded to six vehicle fires, one boat fire near Port Royale Marina, one brush fire, 141 medical emergencies, two natural gas leaks, one carbon monoxide leak, three downed power lines, two unauthorized burn calls, one authorized burn call, 23 cancelled in route, six no incident found, one smoke scare, 14 false alarms and one lightening strike with no reported fire or injuries.
