Sex Offender Arrested After Failing to Register

The 31-year-old man is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond.

Investigators with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office arrested a sex offender Tuesday morning for not registering where he worked with the Sex Offender Unit.

Jeffery Custer, 31, of 5205 Heardsville Road in Cumming, was taken into custody for violating the Georgia Sex Offender Registry law. He allegedly failed to give authorities the address of a local business he had been working for since March 26.

Custer, who is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond, was convicted of sexual battery in Heard County, Ga. in 2003.

Convicted sex offenders (any individual who has been convicted of a criminal sex offense in any state or territory) must register once a year with local law enforcement, providing accurate information about where they work and live, according to Georgia law. If registration information provided to the sheriff’s office is inaccurate or the offender has moved without notifying the Sex Offender Unit, then the appropriate legal actions are taken against the offender, as in the case with Custer.

Also, investigators continue their search for Curtis Joe Motes, 27, who failed to register as a sex offender and violated his probation.
