UPDATE: All Lanes Open on Post Road
Heavy overnight rains have caused the failure and collapse of a drainage culvert on Post Road.
Update: 8-2-13, 10:38 a.m.
Both north and southbound lanes are open again on Post Road (Hwy. 371) at Vickery Creek Middle School in south Forsyth County, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
Original Story:
One lane on Post Road between Majors Road and Vickery Creek Middle School in south Forsyth County is currently closed due to flooding caused by Wednesday night's storms, authorities said.
While the northbound lane is open to traffic, the flow is moving slowly in the area.
"The southbound lane is going to remain closed for the foreseeable future," said Division Chief Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department. "There is significant flooding and erosion of the shoulder on Post Road and has created an unstable situation."
The GA Department of Transportation, which is on the scene, reports heavy overnight rains have caused the failure and collapse of a drainage culvert on Post Road (State Route 371) near Vickery Middle School. The road will remain closed until repairs can be made and detours are in place.
"Anything moving southbound on Post is [currently] being diverted down Majors Road," said Shivers.
There is not a specific timeline when the southbound lane will reopen. Motorists are requested to avoid the area if possible, as congestion in the area is expected.
