Two Dead After Separate Accidents In Forsyth County

Both people were pronounced dead at the scene following their accidents.

In less than 24 hours, two people have died in separate vehicle accidents in Forsyth County.

The first happened Friday at about 6:45 a.m. in South Forsyth County. Michael Stanley Carter, 53, of Norcross was killed after running a red light and slamming into another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 9 and Pendley Road.

According to Traffic Specialist Investigator Ron Tomblin with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, Carter was traveling northbound on Highway 9 in a 2002 silver Honda Accord when he apparently ran a traffic light and struck a 2003 white Mitsubishi Montero.

The Montero, driven by Vickie Cronan, 48, of Cumming was going to make a left-hand turn and travel south onto Highway 9 when she was hit on the front driver's side by Carter.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. Cronan was taken to North Fulton Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. Both were alone in their vehicles.

Tomblin stated that Carter was not wearing a seatbelt and that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are not a factor in the collision.

Traffic was re-directed on Highway 9 for about two hours.

The second fatal accident happened Thursday at about 8:06 p.m. involving a motorcycle.

Cpl. David Garrison with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Specialist Unit reported, that Cody Frank Luther Rogers, 19, of Cumming died after he lost control of his motorcycle and slammed into a tree.

Rogers was riding his 2011 Kawasaki 650 motorcycle on Settingdown Road near the intersection of Bottoms Road in North Forsyth County when he took a curve too fast and lost control of the vehicle, according to Garrison. The motorcycle became broadsided, went off the roadway, and struck a tree. The impact threw Rogers off the motorcycle and sent the bike another 17 feet before it stopped. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cpl. Garrison said alcohol was not a factor in the collision and no other persons or vehicles were involved.

The cause of both accidents are still under investigation.
