Two Men Arrested After Evading Traffic Stop

A Forsyth County sheriff's deputy's attempt to pull over a Toyota Camry for a traffic violation ended in two men being hauled off to jail.

Two men who attempted to flee a traffic stop are both behind bars in Forsyth County.

Connor Dimick, 20 of Marietta and Erik Schatz, 18, of Lawrenceville, were arrested and charged with a slew of offenses after they failed to stop when a Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to pull them over for a traffic violation.

While on patrol along Peachtree Parkway, Deputy First Cass Lawrence Tanner spotted the driver of a silver Toyota Camry who was not wearing a seat belt, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

The driver then turned into the Bridle Ridge subdivision and Tanner tried to initiate a traffic stop. However, Dimick, who was behind the wheel, did not stop and drove through the subdivision and turned south onto Peachtree Parkway.

Schatz jumped out of the vehicle from the passenger side and ran on foot as Dimick pressed on, nearly hitting another sheriff's deputy's vehicle, driven by Deputy First Class Corey Miller.

Miller used the patrol intervention technique, known as the PIT maneuver, to stop the Camry. Once the vehicle was stopped, Dimick took off on foot, but was soon caught.

Schatz was found in the woods near Bridle Ridge subdivision and arrested.

After both men were arrested, Forsyth deputies found several items in the vehicle that did not belong to the suspects, such as jewelry, cash and passports.

Upon interviewing the suspects and reviewing the evidence, Forsyth deputies reached out to Cobb County Police Department. Cobb questioned both men in relation to unsolved burglaries in the county.

Forsyth deputies also determined that none of the items were taken from homes or businesses in its jurisdiction.

Dimick has been charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers, fleeing and attempting to elude officers, possession of marijuana, failure to yield, failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding and reckless driving. He remains behind bars at the Forsyth County Detention Center with a $6,930 bond.

Schatz has been charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers and remains in custody with a $1,155 bond.
