Two Tragedies Over the Weekend at Lake Lanier

Authorities have recovered the bodies of a 14-year-old boy and 51-year-old man, in separate tragedies, over the weekend at Lake Lanier.

The body of a 14-year-old boy from Buford, who went missing following a boating accident over the weekend at Lake Lanier, has been found.

Hall County authorities recovered Trevor Jones on Sunday at 1:10 p.m., according to Melissa Cummings, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Jones went missing after the boat he was riding in collided with another boat Saturday night at the lake near the Hall and Dawson County line.

There were 15 people on board the two vessels. Two other people who were riding in the same boat as Jones suffered injuries, said Cummings in an e-mail to Cumming Patch.

Kaitlyn Smith, 13, of Social Circle, was life-flighted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Jack Struve, 57, of Cumming was taken to North Fulton Hospital with a jaw injury. Their current condition is unknown.

Cummings said the agencies involved in the search included, the Georiga DNR, Forsyth County Fire Department Dive Team, Hall County Sheriff's Office Dive Team and Marine Unit, Dawson County Fire Department (K-9 Unit), Dawson County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The incident remains under investigation and no further details are available at this time.

Also on Saturday, a 51-year-old Cumming man is presumed to have drowned.

According to Cummings, William G. Doster Jr. was at Flat Creek (on the south end of Lake Lanier, south of Browns Bridge in Hall County) with his grandson and wife.

Doster was wade fishing, in about waist-deep water, when he went under and did not resurface. His body was recovered by a family member in approximately six to eight feet of water.

Georgia DNR and Hall County authorities assisted in the recovery.
