Woman Shoplifts From Cumming Store Using Coupon at Self Checkout

A loss prevention officer reported the alleged crime by a woman who previously had been banned from all Walmart stores.

Editor's Note: We originally named the wrong big box store in our article and have since made the correction. Our apologies for this error.

An Atlanta woman will have to answer to city of Cumming authorities after she allegedly shoplifted using a coupon in a self-checkout line.

In a police report provided by the Cumming Police Department, the alleged crime occurred on Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Walmart Supercenter located at 1500 Marketplace Boulevard, but authorities were alerted several days later on Tuesday, Jan. 15, of the incident.

A loss prevention officer said in the report that on Jan. 12, Tiara Latrese Butts, 22, bought five Braun Clean and Renew cartridges using the same coupon five times. The value of the coupon was for $10 off one cartridge, with each cartridge costing $11.82. Butts' final estimated cost went from $59.10 to $13.24 using the coupons multiple times. Her checkout was captured on surveillance video, which Walmart provided to police.

The report also states that police issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for Butts and told the store's loss prevention officer to pursue charges against Butts in Magistrate Court.

Butts previously had been criminally trespassed from all Walmart stores, according to the report.

'A loss prevention officer said Tiara Latrese Butts, 22, bought Jan. 12 five Braun Clean and Renew cartridges for a male grooming product, an electronic shaver,' Does anyone proof read the stories on Patch??

This article is a complete mess. #1. Target does not have self checkout lanes. Walmart is mentioned in the article. My bet is this article is completely about Walmart not Target. #2. Using a coupon more than once is not shoplifting. It is theft by taking. #3. This is now the 4th or 5th article I have seen by this editor that has been a complete mess. When I write articles (not comments articles) I use spell check and other nifty computer devices. I actually ya know EDIT before I submit something. At this point I am not sure that this article is even true it has so much wrong with it.

The article mentions Marketplace Blvd.& that store doesn't have a self checkout. The article seemed thrown together to me.

I sincerely hope the author of this article accidentally posted her/his rough draft by mistake. There can be no other explanation for using such poor grammar and having the job title of editor.

They dont have a self checkout! And thats not shoplifting.

The fact that the Target store in question does not have a self checkout tells me that the reporter may have concocted this article from the depths of his/her imagination. A glaring error like this makes one wonder whether or not the event ever took place.
