BOC Disbands County Hospital Authority

The long awaited vote on Bridgepoint Community Networks lodge in Crystal Cove Shores subdivision was postponed.

Forsyth County Commissioners held one of their shortest meetings of the year last night. With no public hearings scheduled and only one New Business and one Old Business item discussed, the meeting lasted less than two hours.

Under Old Business, commissioners unanimously approved the dissolution of the old Forsyth County Hospital Authority. The resolution required votes at two seperate Board of Commissioners meetings. It was previously approved at the Aug. 4 meeting.

The resolution states the Authority was created in 1955 to oversee Georgia Baptist Hospital. Northside Hospital Forsyth took the hospital over in 2003. Subsequent to that, the Authority was released from its bond indebtedness and obligations and its Board of Trustees voted to affirm its own dissolution.

County Attorney Ken Jarrard, who presented the resolution, said, "It made a lot of sense when it was created, but now has nothing to do."

A minor question arose over the correct name and date on the resolution, but it was approved pending clarification by Jarrard.

Commissioners were scheduled to vote on the issuance of a conditional use permit to Bridgepoint Community Networks, Inc. to operate a nonprofit lodge at 6505 Thunder Trail in Crystal Cove Shores subdivision.

Commissioner Patrick Bell, who represents the community, asked for a postponement, saying he had received some last-minute information and had not had time to review it before the meeting. The issue will be on the agenda again in September.

Several Crystal Cove Shores residents who rose to speak in opposition to the issuance of the permit said due to heavy traffic in the area, the lodge would create a safety hazard. Another said one young girl had already been struck by an automobile on the street.

In other business, the board unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Cumming Healthcare Group to develop an independent living, skilled nursing and senior housing facility on 16.181 acres along Freedom Parkway south of the intersection with Keith Bridge Road.
