Buford Highway Overlay District Approved

The district establishes aesthetic requirements for new development within a several-hundred-foot-wide strip on the Hwy. 20 corridor from the Cumming city limit to the Forsyth-Gwinnett County border.

On Feb. 5, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the addition of an overlay district along Buford Highway.

The creation of the Buford Highway Overlay District establishes aesthetic requirements for new development within a several-hundred-foot-wide strip on the Hwy. 20 corridor from the Cumming city limit to the Forsyth-Gwinnett County border.

District 5 Commissioner Jim Boff originated the district, which now establishes requirements for minimum lighting, signage, landscaping and architectural requirements on nearby neighborhoods.

Boff had previously said he thought it best to establish the overlay prior to the start of construction later this year to widen the road to four lanes.
